You finally have found that perfect piece of high waisted shapewear. It fits you like a glove, it makes you feel all slim and smooth, it even holds you in enough to do up your bottom on your skinny jeans. A-maz-ing.
Until you wear it and wash it over and over again. That poor old band that sits at the top, the bit that is supposed to defy gravity and cling on to your skin for dear life starts to lose it’s power. And so your shapewear no longer stays up.
You have bought those Spanx that everyone was raving about. You have high high hopes that these loverlies are going to make you look so slinky malinky, especially as you have bought them in a teeny tiny size. They will transform you from a size 16 to at least a size 12, surely. Blimey, they ain’t half tight though. And what on earth is going on with the top. It just won’t stay up!
You have challenged the money gods and bought a pair of cheapo Chinese knock-offs from AliExpress. They took 3 weeks to arrive but they look like the real deal, and yeah okay they smell a bit odd and the packaging doesn’t make much sense. You stick them on and yay they fit. But oh no, as soon as you take a step that top just starts sliding on down.
After a few months of slightly wayward eating and a tad too much wine, you are now faced with the party season. Your little black number that you always rely on needs some shapewear under it as always. But oh no, you have gone up a dress size and those slimming shorts you bought last year are really on the small side. You can get them on but they just won’t stop rolling down.
So what do you do?
There are several solutions that you can try to make your high waisted shapewear stay up.
1. Tape it all up. Tit tape, fashion tape or even plain old sellotape. Okay, the last one won’t work too well, but a bit of tape may just do to trick in holding your shapewear in place.
2. Tuck it all in. If your high waisted shapewear is long enough in the body, put in on BEFORE your bra and hoik it up as high as it will go without giving yourself a wedgie. Now put your bra on over the top so the top edge of your shapewear is held down by your bra.
3. Strap it all up. Rather than chucking the old stuff away, buy some little straps that attach to your bra. These are called Shapewear Hold Me Ups and they are a genius little invention. You get 3 straps that you loop around the sides and front of your bra. The end is secured in 3 places to your shapewear with suspender ends and everything is held perfectly in place. They are easy to take on and off, just remember to put them all back together after you have used them – the ends do tend to go awol!
